Gibson Custom Michael Bloomfield 1959 Les Paul Standard V.O.S. #MB 124

Faithfully built to late-1959 specifications, the instrument reflects the materials, construction methods, and tonal intent of the original Bursts that now sit among the most valuable electric guitars in existence.

Period-correct woods, carve, and neck profile are paired with carefully chosen electronics and hardware, including Grover kidney-button tuners, CTS potentiometers, and vintage-style bumblebee capacitors. Gibson’s V.O.S. finish treatment provides the lightly aged appearance of a well-preserved original—never overdone, never artificial.

The pickups have been replaced with a pair of incredible ThroBak P. A. Fs, probably the most period-accurate pickup there is. Made with vintage-accurate winding machines in Michigan. The original Custom Shop Burstbucker pickups are included in the case.

This super rare guitar is one of the most sought after Gibson Artist Models of all time and is in near mint condition having been previously collector owned. It has been stored in a humidity controlled environment .

It ships in a Gibson Custom Shop Michael Bloomfield case, all of its original paperwork, unopened case candy (including lead) and signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Historical Significance
By the late 1960s, the Gibson Les Paul Standard—particularly examples from 1958–1960—had become the gold standard for electric blues and rock guitar. Among these, the ’59 Les Paul associated with Michael Bloomfield  stands apart for its documented role in shaping modern blues-rock phrasing and tone. Bloomfield’s formative years in Chicago immersed him in the source language of the blues, drawing directly from legends such as Muddy Waters, Magic Sam, and Howlin’ Wolf. His work with The Paul Butterfield Blues Band established a new benchmark for electric blues guitar, while his sessions with Bob Dylan  —most notably on Highway 61 revisited bringing  the electric blues aesthetic into the rock mainstream. Bloomfield’s playing reached its most refined expression on Super Session, a record now regarded as an essential document of late-’60s American guitar tone. Central to all of this work was his 1959 Les Paul Standard—an instrument whose voice, sustain, and responsiveness became inseparable from Bloomfield’s touch. That guitar’s legacy now informs this Gibson Custom release.
For the Collector
The Michael Bloomfield 1959 Les Paul Standard V.O.S. is not intended as a modern reinterpretation. It is a deliberate, historically conscious recreation—built for collectors who value authenticity, lineage, and tonal truth over trend. For those who understand what an original Burst represents, this instrument offers a tangible connection to one of the era’s most important players and one of the most coveted electric guitars ever made.
