Blues Guitar Masterclass with Doug MacLeod -
The workshop is geared for intermediate to advanced students, but all are welcome to attend.

The first part of the workshop will focus on the Key of E in standard tuning. Doug starts with the right hand and the importance of setting up a groove and will take the student on a musical journey that includes turnarounds, improvisation, octaves, and as Doug says, " Playing the feeling that lives behind the notes."

The second part of the workshop will focus on bottlenecking in Open G tuning. Using Doug's technique of simplifying the fret board the student will learn chord forms, turnarounds, how to build a solo, and the secret of finding the notes that live inside the notes.

After a workshop with Doug MacLeod the student comes away with not only a whole new batch of tricks and licks, but with an insight to the music and its philosophy that could only be learned by a man who had been there. Plus, the students have fun. With his stories and sense of humour the students come to find that Doug is as an engaging a teacher as he is a performer.

Who is Doug MacLeod?

Doug MacLeod is one of the World's leading bluesmen & storytellers. He returns to Australia in March for a series of shows and workshops, including being one of the headline acts at the World famous Port Fairy Folk Festival and the Mossvale Music Festival in Leongatha. For those that have seen Doug during his past tours all you will want to know is where & when. If you have not had the good fortune to see & hear the man yet, here are a few words that you should read.

"Doug takes the stage, his smile wider than the bar, his demeanour gentle. His southern drawl makes you smile and want to welcome him into your lounge room to talk blues.

And then he starts playing.

I can safely say I have seen very little, from a guitar point of view, that could come anywhere near this. His style is to finger-pick, not a plectrum in sight, and he'll start telling some story from 50 years ago when he jammed with Albert King (there's a lot of talk about sex & love - not with Albert), and then before you realise, he's slid right into the song, the story a part of it, his playing so smooth it makes you want to cry.

It's hard to get across the pureness and absolute brilliance of the man & his music, his enigmatic-ness, his laid back, southern style. If you're in anyway a fan of blues music, guitar in particular, you have to find material by Doug MacLeod. This was the mother lode. I will never be the same again."

This was written buy respected music journalist Sam Fell after he saw Doug for the first time at the Rainbow Hotel in Melbourne during his 2005 tour. Sam sums up exactly what so many people feel after they see Doug for the first time. He simply puts on one of the best live shows you will ever see. People who have seen Doug at the Gympie Muster, Blues On Broadbeach, or one of his many shows around the country have been waiting two long years for his return.

Below are his current tour dates and if you need more info I have included his bio. You can also go to his web site to find out more. www.doug-macleod.com His sensational new album "The Utrecht Sessions" is stunning people around the World and available Australia wide via Only Blues Music distribution.
